BRENTWOOD, July 4, 2008 – The legendary Ford RS performance car brand is returning in the shape of the exciting new Ford Focus RS, which will be previewed on July 22 at the 2008 London International Motor Show.
The new Focus RS will go on sale in early 2009 and is being created by a small team of dedicated engineers, under the direction of Jost Capito, Ford of Europe’s Vehicle Line Director for Performance Vehicles.
For performance road car enthusiasts, the new model will mark a welcome return for the Ford RS badge. This will be the second Focus model to carry the RS mantle and promises another exciting chapter in an exciting 40-year story that began in Germany in the late 1960s and gained momentum across Europe with the launch of the 1970 Escort RS1600. Irvine, Calif. (June 30, 2008) - The automotive research and consulting firm AutoPacific today announced its annual Ideal Vehicle Awards (IVA), of which three category winners were Volvos.
An “ideal” is defined as an excellent or perfect example. So, in search of the ideal vehicle, AutoPacific asked owners to rate their model year 2008 cars and trucks using a measurement of 15 key vehicle attributes.

- The 2009 Ford Escape, equipped with a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, delivers best-in-class fuel economy in the small SUV segment with 28 highway/20 city mpg.
- The 2009 Escape Hybrid remains the most fuel-efficient SUV on the planet, delivering 34 city mpg and an improved highway rating of 31mpg – a 1 mpg increase versus the 2008 model.
- Both the new 2.5-liter four-cylinder and available 3.0-liter V-6 engines produce more power and better fuel economy, thanks in part to a new six-speed transmission.
- The optional 3.0-liter V-6 engine debuts the industry’s first application of cam torque actuated (CTA) variable cam timing (VCT) technology, allowing for a smaller displacement oil pump, improved fuel economy and increased performance.
